I recently attended an Annual General Meeting with 116 Canadian health food stores in beautiful Kelowna BC. This is a group of independent health food stores called Health First. They get together to use group buying, shared marketing and collective wisdom to put value, knowledge and health FIRST for their customers' families.
I gotta tell you something. Being around these fine folks is truly a blessing. Some of these retailers have been in business for decades and some are newer. Some are young, and some, well, young at heart. Some have large stores and some have small boutiques. Some are second or even third generation. But these folks all have one very important thing in common: Heart.
These are retailers who really care about their customers' well-being and happiness. The passion really comes through when we talk about quality; organics; non-GMOs; local food; nutrition for children, the elderly and athletes; the busy Mom and the busy Dad; the stressed professional and the list goes on and on.
Your favourite natural health products can be purchased in many stores now. Even big box stores. And that's great. The more people discover natural products, the better. But when you think about health food stores, think about who really cares and who was there first.
